Blues For A New Day
11/19/04
"Blues For A New Day"  is a charitable project created by the mission of Nadeau Music.

Our Mission: To promote individual and public awareness of, and assistance to, persons throughout Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties receiving mental health services as they tansition from care in a hospital setting to outpatient services through education and community based initiatives with the support of local/independent musicians and artists.
Identified Need To Address in 2005:
Assisting patients who prior to discharge are in need of short-term assistance in purchasing psychiatric medications while they develop more permanent plans for meeting this need.

Who Will Be Eligible For Assistance:
The targeted population for this project will be patients preparing to leave the hospital and cannot benefit from the immediate resources available to the discharge planning coordinators or require more time after discharge to budget for or gain access to community and corporate sponsored assistance programs..

Who Will Be Ineligible:
Patients who choose not to follow the requirements of federal/state funded programs available to them. However, patients who are working toward meeting these requirements and need further time after discharge will be eligible.

Our Current Goals:
Organizational: The requirements for Blues For A New Day to become a recognized non-profit organization are quite complex and require extensive planning. We are currently in the process of selecting a minimum of 5 Board Members and obtaining guidance from business and legal professionals to draft by laws and Certificate of Incorporation.
Program: There are a variety of programs available to assist people in need (voucher programs, expedited government assistance, pharmaceutical companies, community based assistance programs, outpatient providers, etc.) and each service has a particular set of guidelines and available funds that need to be managed effectively and in a timely manner. Coordinating this task alone will take many man hours but is essential in managing the project into the future.
Educational: To contact and coordinate with local colleges and universities an internship or life-learning module which will earn the student credits toward their degree. Initial candidates will be assisting in building a database of contacts,  all available services and options for assistance. With consent, a candidate my have the option to become involved with the care and planning process for the transition from hospitalization to community aftercare.
Events/Donations: The "kick off" event for Blues For A New Day was a CD Release Party for my Brothers in Blues -
Dirty Pool Blues Band - 3rd album "Blue Collar Blues - Live". The event was held in 3/04 at the best place for the Blues in Watertown, NY - The Time Warp Tavern. The inspiration for this project began 10 - 12 months before the album's release when these guys gave me the opportunity to become involved with the recording and producing of this album. Special thanks to Mike Brando for having the technical know-how to pull it off. Special thanks to Mark Cloutier and
"Midnight" Mike Petroff (aka Dr. Harp) for their friendship and patience in allowing me to follow my dream of becoming involved with local musicians. Along with our "kick off" party, hospital staff held a raffle and are planning more events.

Nadeau Music will be donating a portion of sales and referral commissions starting October 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004. Other events are currently in the planning stages - please return often for updates.
