Selwyn Birchwood

Born on March 9, 1985 in Orlando, Florida. Selwyn began playing guitar at 13 – mostly popular music. He would soon discover Jimi Hendrix and then the list of Blues players who influenced him. By 17, Selwyn had become a dedicated Blues fan.

Selwyn was introduced to Bluesman Sonny Rhodes (Clarence Smith) at 19 and would soon join him on the road. Smith is credited with encouraging Selwyn to play lap steel. Selwyn moved to Tampa in 2010 and formed the Selwyn Birchwood Band. The band competed at the International Blues Challenge in 2012 and won the challenge the following year.

Alligator Records signed the band in 2014 with “Don’t Call No Ambulance” released that year. “Pick Your Poison” was released in 2017 and we can expect Selwyn to release new music in 2020.
