Formed in 1972 by founding members Mark Wenner, harmonica and vocals and Jimmy Thackery, guitar and vocals. Known as one of the “Hardest Working Blues Bands”, the band started getting attention in the Washington, D.C. area. They would soon be on throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Jimmy Thackery left the Nighthawks in 1986 to form his own band,  Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers. The rigorous touring with the Nighthawks and a desire to write and perform original music were factors in his leaving the band. Thackery has been known to join the Nighthawks on stage for select dates and events.

Mark Wenner has continued to front the nighthawks through multiple line up changes. The band continues to tour and produce great music. The Nighthawks were a part of the line up for the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise #19 that we were fortunate to witness.
